Our Newest Family Member!

My house has been filled with a lot of sadness over the death of my best friend's husband, John. So, what does my family do? They take advantage and convince me that a lizard is exactly what we need. I have fought for years against any sort of reptile. I have three sons and the topic has been brought up repeatedly throughout the years. As of yesterday, Sheldon/Shelly, a baby Bearded Dragon, has become our newest family member.

Sheldon/Shelly is a baby, in new surroundings, and still rather shy. Click on the photo for a better viewing.

Sheldon/Shelly appears to love his new home and enjoys eating (so he fits right in!). Click on the photo for a better viewing.

The guys are out shopping for more things to add to Sheldon's/Shelly's Terrarium. He/she is still too young to have sand, soon he/she will be able to have a sandbox. I never thought I would ever say this, but Sheldon/Shelly (too early to determine sex) is truly adorable!
If anyone knows anything about Bearded Dragons, please leave a comment or email! Thanks!!

I am sorry for the loss you all are coping with right now.

The lizard is super cool. I have had two pet snakes before, but never a lizard.

I was just bopping around blogspot looking at knitting sites and found yours.
Something I learned from a friend is to buy myself flowers for my place periodically as a pick me up.
I am going through a very difficult loss myself right now.
I am very sorry for yours.

Sheldon sounds wonderful. I bet you are very glad you gave in on at least this reptile.

One place that has been helping me feel a little better while I am there, is a site you might like as well, (it is not about mourning or sadness or anything like that all, just creativity) called, "colour lovers." I am not from there, I just thought you might like it:)

Great blog, take care,

Oh, favorite cheer up movie? "Easter Parade," is at the top of the list and any Marx brothers picture.

Oooh my son would be in heaven right now.. he has 2! Along with an Iguana (wanna) we call her 5 1/2 feet and a pure sweet heart! You have the day lamps? as well as the night lamps too?
They need constant UV during the day to keep them healthy, and the night lamp (red lamp for night to keep them warm.
Is she eating crickets? or the meal worms?

I'll have my son contact you tonight via email =)

See? Don't you just love Sheldon? I love how alert Bearded Dragons are, they are adorable.
Have you been burping Sheldon yet?
You know you have to burp them like a human baby. :)
Welcome to the bloggy world little Sheldon, hope to see much more of you!

Your bearded dragon IS adorable. I always hoped, in the back of my mind, that Alex would take a liking to reptiles when he gets older so we can justify buying on for him...i mean, me. :)
How do you determine the sex of such a thing? Hmmm...Shelly or Sheldon? ;)

Are you joking about burping these little dragonets?

Do they have to be kept warm?
Sara-- you could knit Sheldon a little hat. Awwww!

I love lizards! is an excellent resource for reptile questions. When they get older be careful, I have seen careless people get bad cuts from their spikes.

Wow - I am floored! You don't strike me as the bearded dragon type! I am so happy that he/she makes you happy though - that is all that matters. My daughter will be so jealous - she's been wanting one for a long time. Shhhh - please do not tell her.

Hope you are all doing okay! I am fine with the lizard as long as it stays in the cage!! ;-)

{S}He is incredibly cute! I think I could get used to having one as part of our family, in time. I'd have to adjust. I have a very very mild fear/respect for reptile types. But I do think they are cute.

I seriously do not ever want a lizard, snake, frog, etc. Unfortunately I have two boys, so I will be saying No forever!

i love beardies i have had mine for three yrs now and he is over a foot long just remember you need to calcium dust his crickets every time he gets them or else he can be calcium deficient as well as have a uv light for him because that helps him process his calcium. my beardie is named draco malfoy lol and hold him as much as possible so he will be social dont let him scare you by hissing at you pick him up anyways he is still little so if he nips you it wont hurt bad. any questions feel free to email me vbarton24 at gmail dot com i worked at petco for three years and petsmart for two and am a vet tech major so i know a wee bit.
