Joy-Teaser Tuesdays

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here is mine:
"Which do you think is worse?" Joy asked, her gaze fixed on the ocean. "Never knowing your father-never even meeting him-or loving him your whole life and then losing him."

To me the teaser seems so sad. I feel for her and don't want to answer the question.

I guess in all three instances, you feel heartache.

Wow, that's a tough question.
Great teaser.

Both situations are really sad. I would have to say knowing him and then losing him. I think that would be much worse..

I've been debating adding this book to my list, would you say the teaser fairly well catches the tone of the book?

Both so sad, I can't imagine what it must be like never knowing your father! It was awful losing mine.

Wow, a book with a character named Joy! I think that may be a first for me - my name doesn't usually appeal to authors, for some reason. And it sounds like a pretty good read, too. I might have to check this one out. Nice teaser!

Terrific teaser and a very difficult question to answer. Both situations are full of pain for the person dealing with them. I am very intrigued about this book.
Thank you!

Your teaser is my life!

My parents split up and mom got custody of me at 18 mos. I didn't see my dad until 2007, and he died July 15th 2008. I knew him a year before I lost him again.

I think this story is one I'm not ready for.
