Booking Through Thursday - Complicated

So, today’s question is in two parts.
1. Do YOU like books with complicated plots and unexpected endings?
2. What book with a surprise ending is your favorite? Or your least favorite?

1. I am a huge fan of complicated books, the more complex the better.

2. My least favourite type is book is one where I can, with a fair degree of accuracy, determine the ending as well as the means to the end, before I am a quarter of the way through the novel.

Anyone can play along each Thursday with Booking Through Thursday.

I'm disappointed when I guess the ending early on, but I will almost always continue reading, hoping that it's not going where I think it's going. It happens sometimes.

I agree. I hate books in which I can guess the ending early on. Makes reading a chore instead of a pleasure!

Here's mine:

wow really? I remember not picking up books because they looked complicated from the summaries :)

I love mental twists and turns...

Although I don't want to guess because it's sooooo obvious...I most assuredly, do not want the author to pull up something out of the blue...

(there must be a groundwork)...

PS (hope that you can find time to pop over...we miss your face .. well pen...ok typewriter...or...hmm Keyboard!) LOL

Your right we are different in our answers. Don't get me wrong, I like a good plot with twist and turns, I just don't like when the plot overshadows everything else in the story, especially the characters.

I agree...I like when it comes down to the final pages to see what happens.

Oh I agree! If I can figure out what's coming next what's the point in continuing to read the book?!

1. Do YOU like books with complicated plots and unexpected endings? Yes, depending on how complicated and how unexpected. If I wasn't expecting aliens to drop by and save the day, I would be disappointed.
2. What book with a surprise ending is your favorite? Or your least favorite?
Favorite: Agatha Christie's - And then there were none.
Least favorite: Tess of the D'urbervilles by Thomas Hardy.

Honestly, I enjoy book with surprise ending better than complicated book. An unexpected ending always leave me in 'wow'

If the book is otherwise well crafted, I don't mind predictable endings. My answer is here.

Ugh, i can't stand books where you can see the ending from a mile away- what's the point? I like complication and twists as long as they make sense. :-)

I like that you like a complicated book, but you also like to have it figured out before the end - you must like a challenge!
